Expansion Joint Covers

Expansion joint covers protect and finish the structural movement joints built into walls, floors, and ceilings — closing the gap left for a building to expand, contract, and settle without cracking the structure or exposing occupants to an open joint.

CivilPlus supplies expansion joint cover systems to architects, structural engineers, general contractors, facility managers, and developers across Chennai and Tamil Nadu, covering commercial, healthcare, educational, and transit infrastructure projects. Our range spans wall, floor, and ceiling covers, exterior and weatherproof systems, fire-rated joint assemblies, and foam expansion joint fillers — so a project can be specified end-to-end from a single supplier.

This page is your starting point for exploring our full expansion joint cover range. Use the categories below to find the right system for your application, or contact our team directly with your project drawings for a specification recommendation and quote.

What Is an Expansion Joint Cover?

An expansion joint cover is a manufactured profile — most commonly aluminium — installed over a structural expansion or movement joint. It allows the joint to keep moving underneath while presenting a clean, safe, finished surface above. This is different from an expansion joint filler or sealant, which sits inside the joint cavity itself, and from a control joint, which is formed into concrete to manage shrinkage cracking rather than structural movement.

A correctly engineered expansion joint cover needs to do several things at once: move with the structure (thermal, shear, and in seismic zones, multi-directional movement), seal against water and air infiltration, and where required, maintain the fire-resistance rating of the assembly it crosses. That’s why joint covers are specified as a system, not a single product — the cover profile, the seal, and the anchoring method all have to be matched to the joint’s width, expected movement, and location in the building.

Our Expansion Joint Cover Categories

Wall Expansion Joint Covers

Cover systems for vertical movement joints in interior and exterior walls, including wall-to-floor transitions, designed to accommodate lateral and in/out movement while maintaining a continuous wall surface.

Surface mounted wall expansion joint cover profile for commercial buildings
Aluminium floor expansion joint cover installed flush on tiled flooring

Floor Expansion Joint Covers

Systems for horizontal movement joints in slabs, tiled floors, vinyl flooring, and floor-to-floor transitions, sized to match anticipated joint movement and finished flush with the surrounding floor.

Ceiling Expansion Joint Covers

Profiles that close the movement gap where a ceiling plane is broken by a structural joint, including drywall ceilings and wall-to-ceiling transitions.

Fire-Rated Expansion Joint Systems

Joint cover systems tested and designed to maintain a fire-resistance rating across floor, wall, and drywall assemblies, used wherever a movement joint passes through a fire-rated construction element.

Exterior Expansion Joint Covers

Weatherproof cover systems for joints exposed to outdoor conditions, on both exterior walls and exterior floors, engineered to keep out water, wind-driven debris, and UV degradation.

Foam Seals & Control Joints

Pre-compressed and self-adhesive foam expansion joint fillers used to fill and seal the joint cavity itself, often used alongside or instead of a rigid cover system depending on the application.

Frequently Asked Questions

An expansion joint is a structural gap built into a building to allow for movement caused by temperature changes, seismic activity, settlement, or material shrinkage, preventing this movement from cracking the structure.

It’s a manufactured profile installed over a structural movement joint in a wall, floor, or ceiling, allowing the joint to move while protecting it from debris, moisture, and traffic, and giving it a finished appearance.

Expansion joint covers are categorised by location (wall, floor, ceiling), exposure (interior or exterior), and performance requirement (standard or fire-rated), with material and profile selected to suit each application.

Civilplus supplies expansion joint cover systems across Chennai and Tamil Nadu for commercial, healthcare, educational, and infrastructure projects. Contact our team with your project details for a recommendation and quote.
